Elkin Mrs. Opal Griggs Johnson, age 80, of Benge Drive, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2004 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Johnson was born June 3, 1924 in Stanly County to R. L. & Annie Lee Morris Griggs. Mrs. Johnson was retired from A & P and was of the Methodist Faith. She loved Surfside Beach where she spent most of her free time and her retired life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Henderson; her second husband, Guy Johnson; four brothers, Astor Griggs, R.L. Griggs, Jr., C.R. Griggs, and Joe Griggs. Survivors include: a daughter, Jo Anne Kimrey and husband Ken of Elkin; a sister, Barbara Wooten and husband Bill of Bullock, NC; granddaughter, Allison Shelton and husband Junior of Wilkesboro; three great grandchildren, Wayne, Brinn and Erin Shelton; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Griggs of Cumming, GA, Ann Griggs of Windsor, NC, Barbara Griggs of McCormick, SC. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle by Rev. Billy Summey. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
