Ned Joseph Shore

Ronda Mr. Ned Joseph Shore, age 74, passed away September 12, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born November 9, 1932 to the late John Wylie and Mozelle Tucker Shore of Ronda, NC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Wendell Shore, who was lost at sea serving in the US Navy involving a shipwreck during the Korean War, grandparents, Augustus and Lucinda Burcham Shore of Elkin, Rufus and Ora Tucker of Ronda. Ned was educated in the Wilkes County Public School System. He later enlisted in the US Army serving with the Paratrooper Division and Army Rangers. He served his country on the front line in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Later that year he joined the Merchant Marines where he served on the upper Great Lakes. During the Vietnam War, he served his country as a navigator on a merchant ship delivering equipment, supplies and artillery to our men in service. He also served as an Emergency Medical Technician on the same ship. His opportunity to serve his country took him around the world several times. He retired from the Merchant Marines after 35 years of service. He was a great lover of nature and upon his retirement purchased his grandparents property in Ronda, NC where he could live admiring nature and enjoy the quietness of the countryside. He enjoyed soaring and was a member of the Soaring Society of America. He is survived by a sister, Peggy Shore Money of Sherrills Ford; a brother, Samuel L. Shore and wife Carol of Elkin; four half brothers, John Shore and wife Ann of Fayetteville, Jimmy Shore and wife Kathy, Donny Shore and wife Pat of Jonesville, Ronald Shore and wife Faye of State Road; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Danny Dodds. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the VFW Blue Ridge Mountain Post 1142 . Mr. Shore will lie instate from 1:15-2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Foundation, 180 Parkwood Drive, Elkin, NC 28621.
