Mr. William Von Byrd, age 91, of Austin Traphill Road, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mr. Byrd was born June 11, 1915 in Wilkes County to Sol & Rebecca Brown Byrd.

Mr. Byrd was a former owner of Byrd Upholstery and was member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a retired ordained minister and formerly served as pastor in Wilkes, Surry and Alleghany County Churches. Von was a veteran of the United States Army where he served during WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed Byrd and Wayne Byrd; three sisters, Vassie Porter, Collie Sebastian and Nola Mae Bland.

Survivors include: his wife, Hazel Cox Byrd of the home; a son, David V. Byrd and wife Janessa of North Wilkesboro; a daughter, Donna Byrd Davis Parsons and husband Bill of Brooklyn, NY; sister, Zelda Richardson of N. Wilkesboro; five grandchildren, Laura Byrd, Will Byrd, Sarah Byrd, Caroline Parson, Deni Sheehan; one great grandchild, Justice Sheehan.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Danny Dodds and Rev. Larry Macemore. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Byrd will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
