Lucille Blackburn Luffman

July 30, 1916 — February 2, 2010

Lucille Garris Blackburn Luffman, 93 of Elkin, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Mrs. Luffman was born July 30, 1916 at the old A. Durham home place in Wilkes County to Rayvon & Rosa Durham Garris. She was a dedicated member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and loved gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Luffman was preceded in death by her first husband, E. Grant Blackburn; her second husband, Henry Luffman; her son, Jerry Ray Blackburn; a sister, Mary Wiles; and two brothers, Emmanuel Garris and Louis Everett Garris. She is survived by her son, Edward S. Blackburn & wife Barbara of Raleigh; three sisters, Rosa Lee Mathis & husband Philip of Roaring Gap, Opal Nickel & husband Stanley of Winston Salem, and Peggy Carter of Charlotte; two brothers, R.V. Garris & wife Pat of Roaring River and Dick Garris & wife Lillian of Ronda; a grandson, Charles G. Blackburn & wife Margaret of Columbia, SC; three granddaughters, Walton Spoor & husband Richard of Raleigh, Charlotte A Waldron of Charlotte, and Marion Blackburn of Greenville, NC; and four great grandchildren, Grant Blackburn, Grace Blackburn, both of Columbia, SC, Matilda Spoor of Raleigh, and Azzedienne Waldron of Charlotte. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 12:00 pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Dodds officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary. A luncheon will be provided following the service at the church fellowship hall. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 pm at New Light Baptist Church cemetery, 193 New Light Church Road, Roaring River, NC 28669. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, NC 28621.
