Fred Martin Harris

February 2, 1911 — October 26, 2004

Elkin Mr. Fred Martin Harris, age 93, formerly of Victoria Street, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at Autumn Care of Drexel. Mr. Harris was born February 22, 1911 in Elkin to Thomas Gwyn & Cooper Martin Harris. Mr. Harris was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkin where he served as deacon. He was active in Boy Scouts, Lions Club and the VFW. Fred was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII. He was retired from Chatham Manufacturing. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Maguire Harris of the home; a daughter, Julia Harris Mode and husband Richard of Morganton; a sister, Fannie Sue Robinson of Elkin; two grandchildren, William Richard Mode and wife Tara of Morganton and Kathleen Mode McKeithan and husband Paul of Raleigh; one great grandchild, Gracie Maguire Mode. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 28, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Elkin by Dr. Bill Johnson. Burial will follow at Hollywood cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Harris family.
