Elkin Mrs. Effie Jane Durham, age 95, of Layell Road, passed away Friday, August 6, 2004 at Elkin Healthcare. Mrs. Durham was born May 20, 1909 in Wilkes County to Lewis & Ellen Hagens Hanks. Mrs. Durham was a homemaker and a member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Everett Durham. Survivors include: her daughter, Mary Lee Layell and her husband J.W. of Elkin; a brother, Lincoln Hanks of Elkin; two grandsons, Johnny Layell, Benny Layell; two great granddaughters, Kayle Layell and Julie Benet' Layell. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Level Baptist Church by Rev. Ivan Dameron and Rev. James Hall. Burial will follow at Roaring Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Durham faily.
