Elkin Mrs. Kathryn Vandona Collins Lawrence, age 72, of Blue Ridge Ave., passed away Monday, February 21, 2005 at her residence. Mrs. Lawrence was born July 19, 1932 in Wilkes County to Arthur Dempson & Lizzie Ann Carter Collins. Mrs. Lawrence was employed by Elk Pharmacy and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she was Sunday school group leader. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: her husband, H. Gwyn Lawrence of the home; a son, Reid Lawrence and wife Rosemarie of Asheboro; a daughter, Kathy Gwen Lusk and husband Dave of Traphill; two brothers, Leo Collins and wife Francis of Lake Placid, Fla., Eugene Collins and wife Mildred of Kernersville, four grandchildren, Rev. Travis Chipman and wife Dinah of Roaring River; Justin Chipman of Charlotte, Annaliese Lawrence and Patrick Lawrence of Asheboro; one great grandchild, Jacob Chipman of Roaring River. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Travis Chipman and Dr. Gary Byrd. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lawrence will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
