Dian Moore Cooley

State Road Mrs. Dian Moore Cooley, age 57, of Country Club Road, passed Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at her home after a valiant 25 year struggle with cancer. Mrs. Cooley was born February 7, 1951 in Surry County to Clyde & Sena Moore. Dian attended Mt. Park Elementary School, Surry Central High School and Appalachian State University. She received her Masters Degree in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University. During her 34 year career in Education, Mrs. Cooley taught in Alexander County, Surry County, Wilkes County, Mt. Airy and Elkin City Schools. For the last 10 years, she worked as a consultant for Family and Consumer Sciences Education at the Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh. Mrs. Cooley has developed a vast network of friends and associates across the state of North Carolina and nationwide during her travels and will be missed. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nieta Moore Gambill. Survivors include: her husband of 33 years, Richard "Dick" Cooley of the home; two daughters, Megan Jo Stainback and husband Kevin of Boone, Adriane Dian Cooley of Cornelius; her mother, Sena Moore of Dobson; a special grandson, Nolan Mitchell Stainback of Boone; brothers, Dwight D. Moore and wife Judy of Advance, Henry Lance Moore and wife Maxine of Sherills Ford, Richard Moore of Elkin; several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at the Elkin Presbyterian Church, Monday, February 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Brian Rummage with a period to reflect and share memories following the service. A private interment will follow at a later date. Family and friends will be received at the home at 278 Country Club Drive, State Road, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or the Elkin Presbyterian Church, 151 Hillcrest Drive, Elkin, NC 28621. The family's heartfelt thanks go out to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for all the help and support shown over the past weeks and also for the wonderful support and compassion shown by Dr. Paul Gulley. "No words can express our thanks to all our neighbors, friends and co-workers who have supported Dian and the family through this period of sickness and loss. We love you each and every one!"
