Thurmond Mr. Roy Reece Gillespie, age 79, of Union Hill Road, passed away, Friday, February 16, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mr. Gillespie was born July 13, 1927 in Surry County to James William & Louinda Rae Harris Gillespie. Mr. Gillespie was a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from Super Tire Service. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing and outdoor activities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde Gillespie, Garvey Gillespie and Gilmer Gillespie; sisters, Buzene Gillespie and Bernice G. Murphy. Survivors include: his wife, Pauline C. Gillespie of the home; a son, Dan Gillespie and wife, Julie of Elkin; a daughter, Linda Gillespie Carter and husband Phil of Thurmond; two brothers, Jessie Gillespie and Bobby Gillespie; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Harris and wife Dorothy, Sara Gillespie, Kelly Gillespie, Julie Gillespie, Phillip Carter, II and wife Lada, Bryan Carter, Sarah C. Coreno and husband Jorge; four great grandchildren, Korbin Powell, Jorge Coreno, Jr., Adrianna Coreno and Austin Coreno; a special buddy, Dwight Money. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 18, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Phillip S. Carter, Rev. Danny Royal and Rev. Tony White. Burial will follow at Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
