Lester Arthur Wilkins

March 20, 1915 — October 2, 2005

Elkin Mr. Lester "Karo" Arthur Wilkins, age 90, of Pleasant Hill Drive, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mr. Wilkins was born March 20, 1915 in Yadkin County to Arthur & Martha Martin Wilkins. Mr. Wilkins was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII. He was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he was a choir member and sang in a quartet. Karo was well known for restoring and repairing antique clocks. He was also an avid Hamm Radio Operator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Florence Alexander Wilkins, three sisters, Gladys Day, Laura Livengood and Louise Long; four infant siblings. Survivors include: three sisters-in-law, Rose Gentry, Mozelle Couch and Willie Alexander all of Elkin; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Evan Ballard and the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center for all their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Mr. Hank Campbell. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Music Fund.
