Roaring River Mrs. Mary Colene Brown, age 72, of White Plains Road, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2004 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Brown was born December 7, 1932 in Wilkes County to Rossten & Mattie Garris Lowe. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and a member of Rachel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Ray Fortner, her second husband, Raymond Brown, a son James Ray Fortner and a brother, R.C. Lowe. Survivors include: a daughter, Sharon Combs and husband Harvey of Roaring River; two brothers, Ray Lowe of Galax, Virginia, Virgil Lowe of Fancy Gap; two sisters, Betty Lowe of Martinsville, Hattie Lowe of Fancy Gap; three grandchildren, Crystal Combs, Randy Combs and Amanda Fortner; one great grandchild, Hannah Colbert. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Rachel Baptist Church by Rev. Earl Dowell and Rev. Leon Michaels. Burial will follow at Rachel Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Brown will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral in Elkin. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Brown family.
