Franklin Delano Simmons

September 17, 1932 — October 8, 2007

State Road Mr. Franklin Delano Simmons, age 75, of Snow Street, passed away Monday, October 8, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Simmons was born September 17, 1932 to Clarence V. & Emma Brown Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a Vocation Instructor at Surry Community College for 30 years, after his retirement he was a bus driver for Surry County Schools. He was a standing member of Surry County Democrat Party and a former member of Surry County Planning Board. Frank was the last surviving Charter member of Mountain Park Fire Department where he was the former chief and a member of Mountain Park Youth Foundation. He attended Mountain Park Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Brittany Slawter; three brothers, Leff, Lee and Lonnie Simmons; three sisters, Myrtle Pearl Wood, Ella Mae Simmons and Velda Simmons. Survivors include: His loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy Martin Simmons of the home; three daughters, Patricia Wagoner and husband Peegie, Peggy Slawter and husband Mike all of State Road, Susan Worth and husband Bobby of Mount Airy; two sisters, Ruth Blackburn, Stuart Couch and husband Herman all of State Road; four grandchildren, Daniyel Kennedy-Bates and husband Todd of State Road, Presley Slawter, Ryan Worth and Sydney Worth. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Park Baptist Church by Rev. Carl Childs. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Simmons will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
