Ronda Mrs. Dessie Virginia Reeves Poplin, age 98, of Elkin Hwy. 268, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Poplin was born June 10, 1910 in Wilkes County to Charles and Nan Morrison Reeves. Dessie was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church and retired from Spainhour's Department Store. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Glen Poplin; a brother, Bill Reeves; five sisters, Mae Poplin, Lillian Casstevens, Dora Casstevens, Mag Woodie and Dot Hanks. Survivors include: two sons, Sam Poplin and wife Linda of Ronda; Gayle Poplin and wife Patricia of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Mabel Sparks of Roanoke, VA; two grandchildren, Michael Poplin and wife Susan of Tallahassee, Fla., Brandon Poplin and wife Crystal of Waynesville, NC; three great grandchildren, Trevor Poplin, Matthew Poplin and Savannah Poplin. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Springs United Methodist Church by Rev. Rex Cranfill. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
