Elkin Mr. Robie Franklin Ladd, age 84, of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2004 at Heritage Care of Elkin. Mr. Ladd was born September 21, 1920 in Yadkin County to Jonah & Lillian Campbell Ladd. Mr. Ladd was the owner of Maple Hill Sanitation Company and was a member of Thanks to Calvary Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army and served with the 787th Engineer Division during WWII. He was a founding member of Pleasant Hill Fire Department where he retired after 40 years of service and continued to serve on the Board of Directors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Marvin Ladd, Claude Ladd, William Ladd, Paul Ladd and Roger Ladd; two sisters, Nellie Hudspeth and Pauline Ladd. Survivors include: his wife, Hazel Crump Ladd of the home; one son, Timmy Franklin Ladd and wife Lisa of Elkin; a daughter, Kathy Farris and husband Jimmy of Spartanburg, SC; a brother, James Ladd of Yadkin County; a sister, Mamie Tedder of Brushy Mountains; four grandchildren, Robbie Robinette Ladd and wife Beth, Brian Absher and wife Suzanne, Preston Ladd and Stephanie Ladd; three great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Thanks to Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Ladd will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
