Pfafftown Mrs. Lillian Pettyjohn Holcomb age 91, of Pfafftown, formerly of Thurmond passed away Saturday March 5, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs Holcomb was born May 21, 1913 in Wilkes County to Watson and Ada Carter Pettyjohn. Mrs Holcomb, "Granny or Grandma", was a homemaker known for her cooking, quilting and her loving care for others. She was a member of Charity United Methodist Church and for the last several years attended Old Town Baptist Church. Mrs Holcomb was a former member of Austin Meal Site BROC Senior Nutrition Center, an organization which her and her husband Denver Holcomb help found and Mrs Holcomb was elected CAG Queen. In addition to her parents Mrs Holcomb was preceded in death by her first husband Denver King Holcomb who was an educator for the school system for 43 years, and her second husband Jack Holbrook. She was also preceded in death by five brothers; Worth Pettyjohn, Brady Pettyjohn, Raymond Pettyjohn, Arvil Pettyjohn and Harvey Pettyjohn and one grand son-in-law Mike Talley and a step granddaughter Denise Minton. Survivors include: a son, Tommy P. Ruby Holcomb of Thurmond, one step son Randall F.Nikki Holbrook of Elkin, one daughter Eileen Edwards of Pfafftown, three step daughters, Maxella Walsh of Hickory, Millie Harvey Settle of State Road, and Linda Jack Darnell of Elkin. One brother Howard Evon Pettyjohn of Lynchburg Va. sister Ruth Bud Newman of Littlestown Pa. Four grandchildren; Neal Lisa Holcomb, Tim Michelle Holcomb, Anita DavidCook , and Marty Angela Edwards and eight step grandchildren; Eddie Shelia Settle, Jeff Walsh Denise, Rodney Michelle Walsh, Ryan Holbrook, Drew Holbrook, Chad Holbrook, Jones Darnell and Julie Baker. Nine Great grandchildren, Drew and Colby Holcomb, Hailey and Colt Holcomb, Brooke and Brandon Talley, Chip Cook, Zach and Cameron Edwards and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. Funeral services for Mrs Holcomb will be held Tuesday March 8, 2005 at 2:00pm at Charity United Methodist Church by Rev. Rex Cranfill and Dr. Rick Speas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening at Hodges Funeral Home from 7:00-9:00pm.
