Roaring River Mr. Jesse William Dowell, Jr., age 78, of Austin Little Mountain Road, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Dowell was born January 23, 1928 in Forsyth County to Jesse William & Bertha Mae Moffitt Dowell. Mr. Dowell was a member of Oak Level Baptist Church and was an avid hunter, fisher and loved working in his garden. He was retired from Spectre Freight and was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Dowell and a sister, Inez Brown. Survivors include: his wife, Bonnie Dickens Dowell of the home; three daughters, Carol Adams and husband Mike of Mooresville, Kathy Dowell of Jonesville; Debbie Adkins and husband Farrell of Austin; a brother, James Dowell of Hamptonville; two sisters, Barbara Dowell of Hamptonville and Betty Lynch of Florida; eight grandchildren, Luanne Cardwell, Valorie Williams, Eric Jessup, Amy Moore, Adam Moore, Jesse Noah and Jennifer Noah; twelve great grandchildren, Megan Cardwell, Morgan Cardwell, Keiffer Childress, Christian Childress, Elliott Williams, Alysa Jessup, Ashlyn Jessup, Cody Noah, Logan Armstrong, Summer Bowen, Daniel Moffitt and Nicholas Dowell. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Level Baptist Church by Rev. James Hall and Rev. Randy Johnson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Dowell will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
