Henry John Grit

March 25, 1921 — May 25, 2004

Roaring River Mr. Henry John Grit, age 83, of Greenhorn Road, passed away, Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Grit was born March 25, 1921 in Grand Rapids Michigan to John Henry & Lina Boersma Grit. Mr. Grit was a member of New Light Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army 96th infantry and served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Grit and a sister, Rachel Brown. Survivors include: his wife, Joanne Poutsma Grit of the home; three sons, John Grit and Bill Grit both of Holland, Mich., Jeff Grit and wife Rachel of Roaring River; two daughters, Linda Rynbrandt and husband Bob of Zeeland, Mich., Deb Tharpe and husband, Fred of Simpsonville, SC; two brothers, Bob Grit and Jack Grit both of Byron Center, Mich.; three sisters, Etta Baker of Deltona, Fla., Mary Hagerstrand Wilson of Deland, Fla., Patty Durham of N. Wilkesboro; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at New Light Baptist Church by Rev. David Key. Burial will follow in the Durham Family cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to New Light Baptist Church. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Grit family.
