Mr. W. Byron Wolfe of State Road passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007. He was born January 15, 1914 in Surry County to William Cletus and Stella Kiger Wolfe. He attended the Elkin City Schools and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1935. Mr. Wolfe worked in retail furniture where he and his brother C.C. Wolfe founded Wolfe Brothers Furniture in State Road. While in the furniture business; Mr. Wolfe became involved with the Habitat for Humanity, and was instrumental in organizing the Elkin chapter and the Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat Store. After his retirement he continued work in his long time interest of land preservation and protection of the environment. He was a member of Elkin Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Dr. Paul Wolfe and C.C. Wolfe. Survivors include; his wife Margaret Graves Wolfe of the home, a sister Mrs. Lucy Wolfe Eaton, four nieces and four nephews and their families. A private service will be held by Rev Brian Rummage. Memorial contributions may be made in Byron's memory to Elkin Presbyterian Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
