Mrs. Helen Johnson Baugus went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening May 4, 2011, she was 86. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and granny. She was a wonderful babysitter and care giver for dozens of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the children of friends. Helen was an excellent seamstress who could make anything and gave much of her work away. She had such a generous and giving heart and was always looking for someone to help. She was from a nurseryman family and grew beautiful shrubs and flowers which she shared with everyone. Helen was born September 13, 1924 in Iredell County to Reubin Washington and Grace Mae Cash Johnson. Until declining health, Helen was an active member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church for more than 50 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Mullis and Patty Johnson; brothers, Rex Johnson, Ben Johnson, Clay Johnson, Richard Johnson, and Paul Johnson. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Howard Glen Baugus and her children Gaynell Bauguess and her husband June, Eddie Bauguess and his wife Patti, Wendell Baugus and his wife Joy, and Bonnie Hawks and her husband Tony; grandchildren, William Baugus, Jonathan Baugus and his wife Crystal, Jeff Baugus and his wife Jennifer, Eric Baugus and his wife Shannon, Nathan Bauguess and his wife Bonnie, and Shawn Bauguess and his wife Jen; Darrell and Zoey Hawks; great grandchildren, Jacob, Kayla, and Dillon Baugus; Star, Tyler, and John Baugus, and Ethan Bauguess. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
