Wilkesboro Mrs. Veora Mae Church Johnson, age 84, has joined her beloved husband Rex, daughter Judy, brother, D.A. and sister Leola who preceded her in death on Thursday, April 2, 2009. She passed away at Britthaven of Wilkesboro. Veora was born March 18, 1925 in Wilkes County to Dolphus & Bessie Eller Church. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and was a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church. Survivors include: a son, Ronnie Johnson and wife Rebecca of Traphill; a daughter, Betty Johnson Cude of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Claude Church of Greensboro and Frank Church of Ferguson; five sisters, Beatrice Hearn of Greensboro, Elsie Russell of Taylorsville, Melvina Blackburn of Charlotte, Jewel Dean Blackburn of Greensboro, Carolyn Blackburn of Kannapolis; five grandchildren, William Cude, Miranda Cude-Grindstaff and husband Chad, Christopher B. Johnson, Jennifer Gregory and husband Sandy, David Luffman and Eric Luffman; two great grandchildren, Arabella Grindstaff and Matthew Gregory. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jimmy Welborn and Rev. Jesse Garmon. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home.
