Elkin, Mrs. Kate Marie Wall Martin, age 89, of Elkin passed away Friday, August 27, 2010 in Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Martin was born May 21, 1921 in Surry County to A.C. and Alice Ray Wall. She was a member of Bessie's Chapel Baptist Church and was retired from Sunbeam Corporation. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Martin, daughter Gale Culler, sisters Nell Mounce and Viola Martin, brothers Ray Wall, Bill Wall, George Wall, and Alex Wall. She is survived by two daughters; Janet Edwards and husband Stephen of Winston-Salem and Vicki Holcomb and husband Jeff of Lewisville, brother Jack Wall and his wife Edna of Rural Hall, sisters Estelle Whitaker of Elkin and Lois Walters and her husband Jim of Winston-Salem, three grandchildren Beverly Qualters and her husband Bill, Neil Edwards and his wife Melissa, and Brad Holcomb and his wife Candice; four great grandchildren Olivia Qualters, Kylie Qualters, Madalyn Edwards, and Jayden Holcomb. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in Bessie's Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Grose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Martin will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends following the service at Bessie's Chapel Community Building.
