State Road Mr. Arthur Buxton Hutchins, age 86, of Mtn. Park Road, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Hutchins was born March 14, 1919 in Surry County to Calvin Byrd & Ella Mitchell Hutchins. Mr. Hutchins was retired from the Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures division and was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Arthur was a member of Elkin Masonic Lodge 454 and formerly served as the Master Mason and Lodge Chaplain and he was a member of the Shrine. He was a Charter Member of the Elkin Rescue Squad and served as area 8 Director for many years. He played an instrumental role in achieving a retirement fund for members of Elkin Rescue Squad. Arthur also was a past member of Elkin Lion's Club and served as Commissioner of Jonesville for several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Allen Hutchins; two sisters, Daisy Hutchins Crouse, Ollie "Bun" Kunce. Survivors include: His wife, Mary Gardner Hutchins of the home; a son, Arthur Allen Hutchins and wife Kathleen of Maryland; a daughter, Lucy Hutchins Vestal and husband Jerry Lee of Clemmons; five grandchildren, Christopher Vestal, David Vestal, Ryan Lee Hutchins, Cheryl Telenko and Jeffrey Hutchins; four great grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, Kaitlyn, Kenneth. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 11, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by Rev. John Attaway and Rev. Milton Sewell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Hutchins will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
