Paul Jones Barr

December 13, 1926 — September 4, 2008

Mr. Paul Jones "PJ" Barr, age 81, of old US HWY 421W passed away Thursday September 4, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mr. Barr was born December 13, 1926 in Ashe County to Roger Felix and Stella Jones Barr. Mr. Barr was a graduate of Lansing High School and Clevenger Business College. He was a Veteran of the US Navy; he was a former Assistant Fire Chief for the Town of Jonesville; he was retired from the Town of Jonesville were he was a Maintenance Supervisor and also a former Town Commissioner. Mr. Barr attended Jonesville First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Barr was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Mayberry Barr, two brothers James Edward Barr and John Barr. Survivors include; two sons Darwin Barr and his wife Lisa of Hamptonville, and Dane Barr of Yadkinville; one brother George Barr and his wife Jolene of Texas, and one sister Elizabeth Ashley of West Jefferson; three grandchildren Jake Barr, Alex Barr, and Erin Barr. Funeral services for Mr. Barr will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Jonesville First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Roger Hensley. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:30pm – 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Lottie Moon Missionary Fund in C/O Jonesville First Baptist Church.
