State Road Mr. Alden Roscoe Gentry, age 53, of Mill Road, passed away Friday, January 27, 2006 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gentry was born May 16, 1952 in Surry County to David & Mary Elizabeth Adams Gentry. Mr. Gentry was a devoted husband and father who was very proud of his children. He was employed by Piedmont Sheet Metal in Winston-Salem. Alden was a graduate of Elkin High School in 1972 and he was an avid hunter, fisherman and beekeeper and had several trophies in archery. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where he was active in the Brotherhood, RA's and young men programs, and he also started the video ministry for shut-ins. Survivors include: his wife, Carol Harris Gentry of the home; father and mother, David & Mary Adams Gentry of State Road; a son, Brandon Gentry of the home; a daughter, Shelly Gentry of the home; four brothers, Dale Gentry of State Road, David Lee Gentry and wife Judy of Elkin, J.W. Gentry and wife Wanda of Dobson, Larry Dean Gentry and wife Martha of State Road; a sister, Nadine Parker and husband Boyd of State Road; special brother-in-law, Wayne Harris and wife Trish of Thurmond; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews and many, many family and friends. Funeral service will be held Monday, January 30, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Steve Kramm, Rev. Roger Hensley and Rev. Dan Spears. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Gentry will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
