Mrs. Mary Virginia White, 79, of State Road, passed away Saturday October 29, 2005 at her residence. Mrs White was born September 11, 1926 in Yadkin County to Mallory Odell and Oma Hazel Winters. Mrs. White retired from the Surry County Extension Service, and was previously employed at Pleasant Ridge Child Development Center, Salem Company, and Atwoods in Sparta. She also worked in the Home Demonstration Club, 4-H Club, PleasantRidge Ruritan, and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Churcn where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir. She enjoyed reading, writing recipes, cooking, and fellowship with family and friends, and making new friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Donald Winters, of Boonville. Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, James Artis White of the home, two sons, Ronny Odell Rexanna White of Elkin, Wade Winters Peggy White of Elkin, one Daughter, LaDonna Dare Bruce Brinson of Jonesville, two brothers, Ralph Windell Patsy Winters of Sweetzer, Indiana, Albert Vernon Shirley Winters of Boonville, four grandchildren, Heather White Miles of Elkin, Carrie Renae White of Elkin, Rebekah Ann Bradley Holbrook of State Road, James Mattingly Holleman of Jonesville, and one great grandchild, MaKayla Hayes Carter of State Road. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 11:00 am at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church by Rev Dan Merritt and Rev Charles Jones. Burial will follow at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund.
