Marie Johnson Cleary

Elkin Mrs. Marie Johnson Cleary, age 67, of Shore Street, Elkin, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Carolina's Medical Center. Mrs. Cleary was born April 23, 1941 in Surry County to Reginald & Dorothy Hampton Gambill. Mrs. Cleary was employed by East Coasts Mill Works and was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church where she enjoyed working in the nursery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry Brent Johnson. Survivors include: her husband, Harold Cleary of the home; a son, Greg Johnson and wife Sherry of Gastonia; a stepson, Frankie Cleary and wife Beth of Hamptonville; a daughter, Melissa Lynch and husband Michael of Gastonia; a stepdaughter, Jennie Benton and husband Brian of Jonesville; two brothers, Chris Gambill and wife Joy of Winston-Salem, Marty Gambill and wife Sherry of Boiling Springs; stepmother, Ruth Martin Gambill of Elkin; four grandchildren, Dustin Johnson, Alexia Bogue, Denim Bogue and Joshua Lynch. A memorial service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church by Rev. Zach White and Dr. Chris Gambill.
