Elkin Ms. Estelle Bertha Sloop, age 90, of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Friday, November 02, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Ms. Sloop was born March 14, 1917 in Surry County to Walter Claude & Fannie Jane Turner Sloop. Ms. Sloop retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Sloop and Frank Sloop; three sisters Helen Sloop, Claudette Sloop and Betsy Childress. Survivors include: a brother, Jack Sloop and wife Dolly of Jonesville; six sisters, Emmalene Knott and husband Darryl of Elkin, Carol Whittington of State Road, Cecile Brock and husband Bill, Rachel Brock and husband Jim all of Farmington; Gaye Temple of Cherryville. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 4th, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Tim Lane. Burial will follow at Elkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Sloop will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church.
