Elkin Mr. James Howard Miller, Sr. age 80, of Dillon Ave. passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Miller was born November 19, 1928 in Surry County to Howard Wesley & Nina Robertson Miller. Mr. Miller was retired from Surry County Schools and was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church where he was a past Sunday school teacher and choir member. Prior to his teaching career he also taught Adult Basic Education Classes while he was employed at Chatham Manufacturing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Baker. Survivors include: His wife, Sara Reece Miller of the home; a son, James Howard Miller, Jr. and wife Tara Melton-Miller of Sylva; a daughter, Ann Miller Greene and husband Ken of Ronda; three grandchildren, Ryan Miller and wife Heather, Brett Greene and wife Amy; Andrew Greene; one great grandchild, Keeley Jaymes Greene; a brother-in-law, Newell Baker of Pilot Mountain; nephews, Newell Baker and Family of Lawrenceville, Ga., Steve Baker and Family of Asheville; niece, Joy Baker of Cornelius. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin First Baptist Church by Dr. Bill Johnson, Rev. Joe Dell Rust, and Rev. Rebecca Maynard. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
