Elsie Wall Boyd

Mrs. Elsie Verona Wall Boyd, age 91, died peacefully on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home of Winston-Salem. She was born in June of 1919 in Surry County to W.H.H. "Dickey" and Lucindy Draughn Wall and lived most of her life in Elkin, NC. Mrs. Boyd retired as a cashier manager from Food Lion after more than 20 years of service. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing hundreds of wedding gowns and handmade quilts in her lifetime. Mrs. Boyd was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkin where she served a number of years as the church hostess; preparing Wednesday night family suppers for the congregation. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Boyd, in 2008; four brothers: Monroe, Rufus, Gaither, and Harding Wall; four sisters: Della Holbrook, Hester Laffoon, Virgie Morrison, and Alice Caudle. She is survived by a son Larry Nixon and wife Katie of Raleigh; a daughter Elaine Stevenson and husband Garry of Clemmons; two grandchildren Katie "Trey" Riggins and husband Jeff of Charlotte and Blake Stevenson and wife Tina of Winston-Salem; three great grandchildren Ben and Dave Riggins and Norah Stevenson; a sister Edna Mounce and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will e conducted Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Bill Johnson of First Baptist Church of Elkin officiating. Burial will follow in Mulberry Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; First Baptist Church of Elkin, PO Box 618, Elkin, NC 28621; or to a charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff at Hospice of Winston-Salem and to Clemmons Village I, where she was lovingly cared for during the past three years.
