Elkin Mr. Mallory "Mack" Clinton Fowler, age 87, of Oakland Drive, passed away Monday, June 26, 2006 at his residence. Mr. Fowler was born September 28, 1918 in Surry County to Hubert & Virginia McCormick Fowler. Mr. Fowler was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WWII and he retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a member of Charity United Methodist Church where he was very active in the church work prior to his illness. Mack was a longtime supporter and past Surry County Chairman of the National Democratic Party. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Beulah Hardy Fowler; his second wife, Ruby Nixon Jessup; a sister, Ester Cates; a brother, Oscar Fowler and a son-in-law, Bill Banks. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Louise Yale Fowler of the home; a stepson, Roger Lyons and wife Betty Jo of Lexington; two daughters, Paula Whitaker and husband Wade of Elkin, Peggy Banks of Mt. Airy; two grandchildren, Clint Whitaker and wife Jenny, Brandon Whitaker and wife Kimberly; two great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Whitaker and Chandler Holsclaw, a nephew, Ralph Cates of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Charity United Methodist Church by Rev. Rex Cranfill. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home. Mr. Fowler will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service.
