Gilbert Wood

Roaring River Mr. Gilbert Wood, age 69, of White Plains Road, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Wood was born, January 22, 1936 in Wilkes County to William Marshall "Jack" & Ozie Sparks Wood. Mr. Wood was retired from Duke Power and was affiliated with Rachel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Perry Allen Wood and Michael Lee Wood; a daughter, Teresa Ann Wood; a brother, Warner Lee Wood. Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Cothren Wood of the home; two daughters, Rita Potts and husband Arthur of Statesville; Freda Noble and husband Robert D. Jr. of Mooresville; a brother, Ivan Wood of Roaring River; a sister, Mary Sue Hunt of Roaring River; two grandchildren; four step grandchildren; one great grandchild; five step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 4, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Rachel Baptist Church by Rev. Leon M. Mickle, Rev. John C. Parks, Jr., Rev. Mark Wood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Wood will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Jude's Children Fund or to Rachel Baptist Church Building Fund.
