Elkin, Mr. Walter Brady Osborne, age 89, of Graham St. passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009 at his residence. He was born Oct. 30, 1919 in Yadkin County, to Walter and Carrie Bell Cheek Osborne. Mr. Osborne was retired from Chatham Mfg., and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WW II.. He achieved the rank of Master Sgt., and earned the Silver Star medal. He was always proud that he had served with Audie Murphy, one of the most decorated war heroes, and Film star of the early western era. After his service in the armed forces, he attended Clevenger Business College, earning his business degree. Mr. Osborne was an avid golfer, and baseball player, and was a catcher for the Chatham Blanketeers. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dogs. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Joan Berry Osborne, a brother Joe Osborne, and a sister Della Lou Osborne Smith. Survivors include his wife Linda Holbrook Osborne of the home, one son William Dana Osborne and wife Dawn Kirk Osborne of Jonesville, one daughter Pamela Osborne Cooper and husband Charles Judson Cooper of Randleman, a special niece Katherine Chambers of Ronda, grandchildren Winston Parker Osborne, Matthew Tyler Sandborn, and Ginger Tucker Leonard, and his dog Hershey. Funeral services will be conduced Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Hodges Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Murphy officiating. The burial will follow in Hollywood cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. prior to the service. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or to the Humane Society.
