Mr. William Franklin "Sam" Bell, age 82, of North Wall Street, Elkin passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bell was born September 15, 1921 in Yadkin County to Charles Robert & Emma Burgess Bell. Mr. Bell was a veteran of the US Army and served during World War II in the 2nd Armored Division. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and he was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Walls Bell; four brothers, Shade Bell, Robert Bell, Noel Bell, Hal Red Bell; a sister, Effie Bell Overstreet. Survivors include: a brother-in-law, Sonny Walls of Elkin; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Bell, Mary Lee Talley both of Yadkinville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday May 13, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by Hank Campbell. The family will receive friends following the funeral service at the church. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Bell family.
