Elkin Mrs. Sylvia Darnell Wood, age 87, of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Wood was born October 14, 1918 in Wilkes County to Wiley Worrick & Alice Haynes Darnell. Mrs. Wood was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edworth Wood; two brothers, Kermit Darnell and Wiley Darnell. Survivors include: a daughter, Sylvia Dianne Wood of the home; a brother, Warren Darnell of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister, Stella Mae Alexander and husband Howard of Elkin; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Jerry Fugate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Wood will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
