Mrs. Chloe Byrd Holcomb, age 87, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Holcomb was born July 24, 1923 in Iredell County to John C. and Chloe Mae White Byrd. She was a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church and her joy in life was doing for her family and church. Mrs. Holcomb retired from Roses in Elkin, was the manager of Blush Lingerie in Jonesville and was employed with Shoe Show in Elkin. Mrs. Holcomb always had a servant's heart and was always caring for others. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester C. Holcomb, Sr.; sisters, Ann Henderson, Selma Combs, Betty Jo Chambers; a brother, Dolly Byrd; a step daughter, Sandy List; and a step granddaughter, Tammy List. Survivors include: her son, Larry Johnson and wife Birdie of Elkin. A stepson Lester C. Holcomb, Jr. and wife Darlis of Whiteville. A step daughter, Bettye Perkins and husband Jake of Atoka, TN. Three grandchildren, Tim Johnson and wife Christie, Tony Johnson and wife Julia, Ted Johnson and wife Wendy. Six great grandchildren, Beth Woodruff and husband Paul, Sarah Williams and husband Michael, Davin Forscutt and wife Tiffany, Zachary Johnson, Joshua Johnson, and Matthew Johnson. Nine step grandchildren, Nicole Hunter and husband Matt, Brooke Sulecki and husband George, Leslie McCraw and husband Tim, Janelle Norman and husband Keith, Larry Peppers and wife Jeanie, Ronnie Faulkner and her husband Eddie, Bradley List, Jessica List, and Toby List; 18 step great grandchildren; 16 great-great and step great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews: Terry Byrd and wife Teri, Ima Lou Pack and husband Fred, Jan Hood, Gary Chambers and his wife Carol, Davy Chambers, Johnny Hendserson and his wife Jewell. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 9, 2011 at Calvary Wesleyan Church at 2pm conducted by Rev. Stanley Stogner, Rev. Lester C. Holcomb Jr., and Rev. Frank Norris. Burial will follow in Sunrise Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm prior to the service at the church. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Calvary Wesleyan Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, Blue Ridge Medicine, Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Staff and her loving church family for the love and care given to Mrs. Holcomb.
