Maurine Guyer Wagoner

November 20, 1918 — September 17, 2007

Raleigh Mrs. Ruby Maurine Guyer Wagoner of Raleigh, formerly of Hamptonville, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 17, 2007, at the age of 88. She was predeceased by her parents, Dillard Grant Guyer and Edna Gentry Guyer of Elkin, and in 1985 by her loving husband of 39 years, Avery Neris Wagoner. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Marvin Guyer of Flint, Michigan, and D. G. Guyer, Jr., of Elkin, and a sister, Hilda Guyer Wilcoxen of Elkin. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Ann Marie Wagoner LeGarde and her husband John of Raleigh, one granddaughter, Caroline Marie LeGarde of Baltimore, MD, and one grandson, Evan Christian LeGarde of Atlanta, GA., and his fiance Brittany Leigh Newton also of Atlanta, GA. Other surviving family members include: two brothers, Bill Guyer and his wife Molly Jean of Atlanta, GA, and Ervin Guyer and his wife Carol of Stamford, CT; four sisters, Vena Sprinkle of Elkin, Linda McCann and her husband Thomas of Ronda, Kay Vargo and her husband Mike of Idaho Falls, ID, and Patsy Guyer of Washington, DC as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Following her retirement after twenty years as secretary at West Yadkin Elementary School in Hamptonville, Mrs. Wagoner provided the most loving care for her husband as he declined in health. She later returned to work part-time as secretary of Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville, retiring only two years ago at age 86 to live with her daughter and her family in Raleigh. Mrs. Wagoner leaves a legacy of devotion to her faith in God, hard work, generosity to her family and friends, and creativity in needlework, gifting many of her stunning quilts and afghans to her numerous family members. The service to celebrate her life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Jonesville on Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Roger Hensley and Dr. Ray Hamilton. A time of visitation will follow, preceding interment beside her husband at Sunrise Cemetery in Jonesville. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Jonesville or Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Elkin.
