Gene Aldon Harris, 68 of Jonesville, stepped from one side of eternity to the other on Sunday, November 29, 2009. There, he was greeted by the many family members and loved ones already home. Our daddy didn't have much here on earth, but one thing we can say, he loved the Lord and tried to live for Him, and today, he is reaping the rewards. One day our father met "The Father", yesterday morning, our daddy really met Him face to face. As difficult as this is for the family, we would not call him back, for he is in the arms of our Savior. We rest in comfort knowing daddy did not have to suffer through a lengthy illness. He just went to sleep to wake up in the presence of God Almighty. He had been through many things, but God let us keep him until He was ready. Sunday morning, his mansion was ready and God called out his name. We will see him again one day. Mr. Harris was born April 20, 1941 in Surry County to Hiram Aldon and Edith Marie Harris. He was a faithful member of Central Full Gospel Church in State Road where he was a musician, bass guitar player, and he sang with the Alleluia group and the Pine Ridge Boys, as well as at the church. Mr. Harris was an avid lover of Southern Gospel Music. He graduated from Mountain Park High School in 1960. He was retired and worked part time for Cedar Lake Golf Course in Jonesville, and Yadkin Valley Full Gospel Association Camp meeting site as Building/Grounds Keeper. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father, Hiram Aldon Harris of Jonesville; a son, Leslie Craig Harris & wife Connie of Ronda; a daughter, Anya Harris Byrd & husband Neal of Roaring River; two brothers, Willie Bill Harris & wife Eva of Thurmond, and Donald Harris & wife Margaret of Verbena, AL; a sister, Juanita England & husband Bobby of Casar, NC; six grandchildren, Ashley Byrd Tucker & husband Scott, Casey Harris, Leslie Harris, William Harris, Dyani Harris, and Morgan Harris; Special dear Friend, Rachel Nelson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 11:00 am at Central Full Gospel Church with Rev. Bobby Norman, Rev. Scotty Johnson, and Rev. Tim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service.
