Ernest Odean Groce

September 9, 1925 — December 19, 2007

Elkin Mr. Ernest Odean Groce, age 82 of Johnson Ridge Road, formerly of Ingram Drive, King, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Heritage Care of Elkin. Mr. Groce was born in Yadkin County September 9, 1925 to Sam Drake & Nellie Wagoner Groce. Mr. Groce was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Nellie Lee Parks Groce of the home; a son, David Michael Groce and his wife Anita of Clear Water, VA; two daughters, Teri Groce Calhoun and husband Johnny of Westfield, Priscilla Ann Minton and husband Eddie of Boomer; a brother, Comas Groce and wife Lucille of State Road; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. by Rev. Bobby Prevette. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service from 2:30-3:30 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
