Mrs. Dorothy Mae Simmons Pitts, age 82 of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Pitts was born January 21, 1929 in Yadkin County to George Dewey Simmons and Lula Mae Luffman Simmons. She was retired from Lucia and was a member of Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Simmons and a great granddaughter, Alexius Marie Simmons. Survivors include her husband, George Harden Pitts of the home; son Ronald Steven Simmons and his wife Janice of Greer, SC; daughter, Tina Cothren and husband Tyre of Elkin; brothers, Grady H. Simmons of Jonesville and Johnny E. Simmons of Jonesville; sisters, Marie S. Robinson of Jonesville, Naomi S. Thompson of Jonesville, and Inez S. Kelley of Greensboro; grandchildren, Todd Andrew Simmons, Tamara Lynn Simmons, and Brian Matthew Cothren, great granddaughter, Leah Faith Cothren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Kenny Gunn and Rev. Brian Cothren officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621 or to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice, Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, Mrs. Naomi Thompson, Elkin Pediatric and Adult Medicine, and the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Elkin for their care.
