Mrs. Gladys "Pete" Durham Cockerham age 81, of Austin-Little Mtn. road passed away Saturday December 26, 2009 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. She was born April 13, 1928, in Wilkes County to Claude and Lottie Boyd Durham. Mrs. Cockerham was retired from Chatham Mfg., and was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Ray Durham, and Bobby Durham, and one sister Pauline Newman. Survivors include: her husband James C. Cockerham of the home, one daughter Betty Blackburn and her husband David of Roaring River, one brother Robert Lee Durham of Ronda, One sister Betty Jo Jolly of St. Road; Two grandchildren, Mike Blackburn and wife Crystal , and Travis Blackburn and wife Julie; five Great-Grandchildren, Dusty Blackburn, Ledger Blackburn, Phoenix Blackburn, Macy Strelko, and Morgan Strelko. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 29, at 2:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel, by Rev. Nick Cheek, and Rev. Elmer Barker. Burial will follow in Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery.
