Ina Key Hayes

April 27, 1914 — June 5, 2006

State Road Mrs. Ina Key Hayes, age 92, of Adams Ridge Road, passed away Monday, June 5, 2006 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Hayes was born April 27, 1914 in Surry County to Andrew Jackson & Alice Welborn Key. Mrs. Hayes was retired from Salem Apparel and was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She was a volunteer with the State Road Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Verk Hayes, two borhters, D.J. "Slim" Key, Romie "Dick" Key; a sister, Dorothy Hanks. Survivors include: two daughters, Katherene Moran and husband Dock, Deborah Brown and husband Gray all of State Road; three grandchildren, Catherine Bray and husband Randy of Mooresville, Meredith Velasco and husband Sergio of Austin, TX, Andrew Brown of Elkin; two great grandchildren, Jacob Velasco and Hannah Velasco. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Roger Hensley and Rev. Steve Kramm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church Building Fund.
