Ronda Mrs. Doris Lee McCann Tharpe, age 79, of Tharpes Mill Road, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Tharpe was born July 5, 1929 in Wilkes County to James E. & Maude Burcham McCann. Mrs. Tharpe was a homemaker and was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Tharpe; a twin brother, Henry Clay McCann. Survivors include: a son, Brian K. Tharpe of Wilkesboro; a daughter, Beth Tharpe Noah and husband Jeff on Dobson; a stepson, Robert Dolan Queen and wife Debbie of Wilkesboro; three brothers, J.L. McCann, Tommy McCann and Bill McCann all of Wilkes County; three sisters, Norma Howard of Winston-Salem, Clara Huffman of Siloam, Betty Tharpe of Elkin; six grandchildren, Chelsea Noah, Hannah Noah, Isaac Noah, Candace Noah, Ashley Tharpe, Haley Tharpe; two step grandchildren, Chad Queen and Shauna Harrison; one step great-grandchild, Robert Graham Harrison. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church by Rev. Joel Blevins. Burial will follow at Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Tharpe will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Foundation, 180 Parkwood Drive, Elkin, NC 28621.
