State Road Mr. Jimmy Clifton Newman, age 66, of Adams Ridge Road, passed away Sunday November 21, 2004 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Newman was born February 23, 1938 in Surry County to James Fletcher and Bertha Billings Newman. Mr. Newman was a retired carpenter and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Jim was also active in the Brotherhood of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Newman was preceded in death by a son, Greg Newman and a brother, Jack Newman. Survivors include: His wife, Lillian Cox Newman of the home. A daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Rickey Myers of State Road. Daughter-in-law, Annette Newman of State Road. Four brothers, Bill Newman of Clinton, MI. Bob Newman, Don Newman, Johnny Newman all of State Road. Three sisters, Ruby Wagoner of Rural Hall, Reba Brown of Traphill, Nell Newman of State Road. Four Grandchildren, Samantha Newman, Allison Newman, Meghan Polinski, Sarah Myers. A close family friend, Doug Melton of State Road. A graveside service will be held Tuesday November 23, 2004 at 11:00 am at Crestwood Memorial Gardens by Rev. Roger Hensley. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-9 pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church Building Fund. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Newman family.
