Thurmond Mrs. Hessie Mae Colvard Owens, age 86, of Thurmond passed away Saturday, September 3, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Owens was born January 16, 1919 in Wilkes County to Curtis Worth and Molly Brown Colvard. Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charlie L. Owens, one son Dennis Gray Owens, two brothers and two sister. Survivors include: two sons, Charles Dean Owens of Thurmond, Curtis Kent Owens and his wife Betty of Hays, one daughter June Hall and her husband Dewitt of State Road. One brother, Kenneth Colvard of Lenoir and one sister Louise Wallace also of Lenoir, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 6, 2005 at 11:00 am at Roaring Gap Baptist Church by Rev. Olin Barker and Mike Fongemy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Owens will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
