Mrs. Margaret Eddie Mickel Smith, age 83 of Clingman, joined her husband, J.E.Smith, Jr., in Heaven on Monday, April 25, 2011. Margaret was born January 29, 1928 in Surry County to William McKinley and Phobie Frauline Caudle Mickel. She was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in the Clingman community. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Smith; grandson, Lance Holbrook; three brothers, Sherman Mickel, James Mickel, and David Mickel. Survivors include: daughter, Hilda Holbrook and her husband Maynard of Clingman; sister, Betty Perkins of Madison, Mississippi; daughter-in-law, Elaine Williams and her husband Buford of Clingman; grandchildren, LaDonya Pope of Winston-Salem, Jennifer Ayers of Bluffton, SC, and Jammie Hall and her husband Kevin of Ronda; four great grandchildren, Emily Ayers, Lydia Ayers, Bradley Pope, and Kayte Hall; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
