Mrs. Ruby May Cheek, age 84, of White Plains Rd. passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Cheek was born February 23, 1925 in Wilkes County to Dallas and Lessie Cothren Billings. Mrs. Cheek attended Rachel Baptist Church; she was a homemaker and a wonderful loving mother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Arlie Cheek and two brothers Olin Billings, and Marvin Billings. Survivors include; three sons, Lester Cheek and his wife Charline, Ronnie Cheek, and Randy Cheek all of Roaring River; seven daughters, Pauline Upright of Mooresville, Rosa Lee Mask and her husbandBobby of Roaring River, Betty Lou Holloway and her husband J.L. of Roaring River, Peggy Crabb and her husband Jim of Roaring River, Ethel Marie Conley and her husband Gary of Statesville, Kathy Casstevens and her husband Dale of Boonville, and Karen Gillis and her husband Kent of North Wilkesboro; four sisters, Bonnie Bauguess of Roaring River, Mozelle Woodruff of Roaring River, Emma Billings of Mocksville, and Annie Dyer of Millers Creek; seventy grand and great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Cheek will be held at 2pm Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at New Light Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Matthew Higgins, and Rev. David Key. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
