Nan Norman Nan Elizabeth Johnson Norman was born in Winston-Salem on September 24, 1923. She passed away surrounded by her family at home in Elkin on December 30, 2007 and leaves behind her loving family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Coston and Margaret Click Johnson and her brother Russell Coston Johnson, Jr. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 62 years, Fred Charles Norman; her children Fred Charles Norman, Jr. and his wife, Chrissie of Winston-Salem; Nancy Norman Card of Wilmington; and John Foley Norman and his wife, Jill of State Road. She is also survived by her brother, Graham Johnson of Elkin; sister, Carolyn Wilkes of Richmond, Virginia; and six grandchildren, Jesse and Carson Jewell of Wilmington; Russell and Casey Norman of Winston-Salem; and Amy and Nathalie Norman of State Road, and sisters-in-law, Una Key, Oleen Tharpe and Glenda Strole. Nan was a past member of the D.A.R. and the Elkin Garden Club, and an active member of the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and First Baptist Church of Elkin. She enjoyed gardening and had a special love of birds. She was an avid fisherwoman and spent many happy hours on the water near Litchfield, South Carolina. A graveside service will be conducted at Hollywood Cemetery at 10:30 am on January 2, 2008 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, Gwyn Avenue, Elkin by Dr. Bill Johnson, Rev. Rebecca Maynard and Rev. Chris Norman. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.
