Edith Blackburn Mayes

Mrs. Edith Blackburn Mayes, age 85, of Liberty School Road, State Road, passed away Saturday January 22, 2005 at her residence. Mrs. Mayes was born May 3, 1919 in Surry County to John Arthur and Ida May Nixon Blackburn. Mrs. Mayes was retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co. and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Mr. Jay Mayes and one brother George Blackburn. Survivors include; a son Billy Jay Mayes and his wife Agnes of Mountain Park, a daughter Betty Kay Reves of Fancy Gap, Va. One granddaughter Dr. Rochelle Reves Bazemore and her husband Mike of Raleigh, and a special friend Irene Barlow of Thurmond. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday January 25, 2005 at 2:00pm at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev Russ Nixon. Burial will follow in the Mountain Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hodges Funeral Home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Hospice of Surry/ Yadkin County, 1326 N Main Street, Mount Airy NC. 27030
