Elkin Mrs. Edna Day Sparks Harper, age 85, of Pettyjohn Street, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Harper was born September 9, 1918 in Surry County to Rev. Richard F. & Alberta Tilley Day. Mrs. Harper was retired from Veteran Heating & Air and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Brent Sparks; her first husband, Howard Sparks; her second husband, Bill Harper; two brothers, Johnny Day and Sam Day; one sister, Marie Day Creed. Survivors include: three brothers, Fred J. Day of Elkin, Joe Edworth Day and Richard B. Day both of Winston-Salem; five sisters, Pauline Martin, Stella Newman, Willie Newman all of Elkin, Sue Long of East Bend, Ruby Hawks of Ellerby, NC; three grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Day of King; a daughter of her heart, Sharon Robertson of East Bend; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Gary Byrd and Brother Eddie Day. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers or memorial donations the family requests that you do a kindness to a stranger or a child. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Harper Family.
