Mr. Herbert Monroe Collins age 78, passed away Friday February 2, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin. Mr. Collins was born in Wilkes County July 26, 1928 to Troy Monroe and Bessie Day Collins. Mr. Collins was retired from Century Furniture Company, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hickory where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, he was the owner of Vintage Village Flea Market, a member of Elkin Kiwanis Club and Elkin Fire Department, and National President of Furniture Manufactures Credit Association. Mr. Collins was an avid golfer and hunter and loved his two Chihuahuas EB and Angel. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Collins and a sister, Esther Darnell. Survivors include his wife Azelyne Collins of the home, two sons Andy Collins of Ashville and Sidney Collins and his wife Tamara of Hamptonville, one daughter, Cindy McQueen and her husband Bill of Boonville, six grandchildren, Katie Wilson and her husband Thomas, Ashley Collins, Eric Collins, Troy Collins, Hannah Walsh and Chloe Reavis, and four nephews and nieces. A memorial service for Mr. Collins will be held Monday February 5, 2007 at 1pm at the First Baptist Church of Hickory conducted by Dr. Bill Leathers and Rev Pat Pierce and also Monday February 5, 2007 at 6pm at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville conducted also by Dr. Bill Leathers and Rev Pat Pierce. The family will receive friends following both memorial services in the church fellowship halls. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Hickory, Flat Rock Baptist Church Youth Department or to the North Carolina Baptist Children's Home.
